The 30-question format, and why 25 is a higher bar than it sounds

25 out of 30 works out to roughly 83%, a slightly higher bar than Ontario's 80% G1 threshold. Unlike Ontario's two-section split, Alberta's Class 7 test is scored as one combined pool, so a strong showing on signs can help offset a weaker rules-of-the-road performance, and vice versa.

What the test actually covers

Expect questions across Alberta rules of the road, traffic signs and signals, safe driving practices, and basic traffic laws, all drawn from Alberta's official Driver's Guide. Treat that guide as the single source of truth for prep, rather than generic driving-test material aimed at other provinces.

The once-per-day retest rule

If you don't pass, you can try again, but only once per day, and you'll need to pay the applicable fee for each additional attempt. That makes cramming and retesting the same afternoon impossible, so treat your first attempt as the one that counts.

The vision screening step people forget about

Passing the knowledge test isn't the finish line. A Registry Agent will also check that your vision meets Alberta's driving requirements before your Class 7 licence can be issued, so budget time for that step in the same visit if possible.

What happens right after you pass

Once you clear both the knowledge test and vision screening and complete the application process, you can purchase your Class 7 licence. You'll typically get a temporary licence on the spot while your official card is mailed to you.

How to actually prepare

Work through Alberta's official Driver's Guide section by section, then use practice questions and mock tests to check your recall under test-like conditions rather than just re-reading the material passively.
