Make sure you're eligible
You must be at least 16 years old and have held your Class 7 learner's licence for at least 12 months.

03
Book your Class 5 road test
Schedule your Class 5 road test through an Alberta Registry Agent or an authorized road test provider.
04
Take the road test
A driver examiner will assess your ability to safely operate the vehicle, follow traffic laws, observe road conditions, and make appropriate driving decisions.
05
Pass and upgrade your licence
Once you pass the Class 5 road test, you can upgrade from your Class 7 learner's licence to a Class 5-GDL Probationary Licence.
06
Begin your probationary period
You must remain in the probationary stage for a minimum of 2 years before becoming eligible for a full Class 5 licence.
